A Chat with Teazers - KCMO Femme Riot Grrl Rockers
Teazers is an all femme Riot Grrl punk band from Kansas City, MO that will be performing at the Lumber Yard on Friday, January 23, 2026.
In 2024, multi-instrumentalist Macee Lewis reached out to bassist Skye Sherwood, whom they knew from playing in backup bands in the area, to start a new project. After some back and forth on different guitarists, they were connected with local singer songwriter Haddy Christa.
"We got together at Providence by the Slice in Westport. We all sat down and discussed our goals and ambitions, motifs we wanted to lean towards. It all felt really natural. We had never met Haddy before, but it just really clicked." - Macee
By February the following year, they had played their first show.
The first single, Lost in Translation, exemplifies themes central to the band- confronting the challenges and issues of modern girlhood and other feminine topics while empowering those around them. Sonically, they are a classic punk rock power trio, but with a twist, with each member trading vocal duties.

Individually, they bring different and adjacent influences, from classic 70's punk to contemporary midwest emo. It's a sound that's recognizable, but there's a degree of polish and professionalism that sets them apart from the run of the mill dive bar punks, due in no small part to the formal education in music and audio engineering they all possess.
The band notes that sexism can be common in the spaces they operate, with less than 5% of people in the audio production field being women.
"We actually do know what we are doing. Going into a new place we have to establish that upfront (...) We get passing comments all the time that can really suck. But luckily since there are three of us, we help each other out. There are such a low number of feminine people in these fields because it's so difficult to put up with." -Skye
